Legend has spent his last few months in rehab for his 2 broken legs. While he’s been “down and out” he’s been working hard on learning new commands and potty training.
Ledge is a super smart boy. He has learned: leave it, give, drop it, tug, touch(push), sit, down, spin, shake, high five, heel, and pause (maybe we are forgetting some?!).
Ledge does best when he is 100% engaged with his handler due to his high energy and his inclination to get himself into “trouble”. He LOVES to work for his person. He needs an owner who is willing to be 100% consistent with him and not let him get away with “naughty behavior”.
Ledge also knows “go to bed” and happily runs into his crate when asked. He LOVES to play with toys and his favorite is any tug toy or playing with balls!
He is a potty training rock star and will bark when he needs to go potty. That bark…… can kind of be confusing, because Ledge tends to be a bit mouthy and barks a lot. His foster mommy can distinguishable potty bark, from the I want to tell her about something bark. (But be warned, he is not a quiet dog).
Ledge loves kids, but has a high drive, and does NOT do well around young children at all. He seems them as playmates and not humans.
Ledge LOVES other dogs, however, wants to play roughly non-stop(we really mean non-stop), and can get scrappy with others, so would NOT do well in a home with older pets, pets who do not want to play all the time, or pets who tend to be dominant (he is not one who will back down if challenged). We are working on a pause command to stop play and get him focused, but his drive to play is often greater then the reward of listening to his pause command. (We are making progress though!)
He can’t live with pocket pets, or cats as he thinks they are made to be chased.
He is not a super snuggly dog, and prefers to lay on a dog bed or the cool floor (when he lays! ) versus being held or snuggled. He is not your typical toy breed who is calm, quiet and wants carried around all the time. He will however, occasionally want to snuggle, but usually only when he is sufficiently tired out!
He does not do well in the heat due to a sensitive trachea. He will make seal noises if he pulls on the leash as well. (He does best in a body harness, due to this).
Due to his high (and I mean off the charts high) energy, he would do well with someone who would love to continue his training (and consider doing rally obedience with him!), take him for walks, and keep him busy. He loves to be busy. He loves car rides (and rides well). He REALLY loves his rides to Starbucks for pupachinos! If Legend sounds like your kinda fella... applications are available on our website www.onedogatatime.us. Please watch for a welcome email.
