Boxer / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) : : Male : : Young : : Large
Soldier is a young boxer mix pup born in February 2020 who found his way to ODAAT after he suffered a skull fracture and brain injury at just 5 weeks of age. He spent a few days inpatient at Metzgers Animal Hospital and then went to a foster home that could care for him during his recovery. From day 1 Soldier has been a very loving little boy. Just within the past few weeks he has gained his "boxer ears" where they have now found their spot out front like a floppy eared bunny! As soon as he hears and recognizes your voice, his wigglebutt is activated and hes the happiest boy in the world! He loves to snuggle on the couch at night and during nap times. His signature move is when he approaches you he will rest his paw in your hand. Its his way of "finding you" when he knows you are close. Its also the cutest thing ever! He has managed to find his way up and down the stairs in his foster home. He does need some guidance with this currently and quite possibly throughout his life. He has been exposed to cats, was curious of them and would run after them if they ran but also backed off when he was greeted with a bop on the nose and a hiss. His foster home consists of 3 large male dogs, all about 60-70lbs and he has done great with them and really takes guidance from them. The dog(s) in his new home will need to be tolerant of puppy play and behavior, not play extremely rough, and willing to have a shadow named Soldier :). He is crated when his foster family is away from the house and does great. His overnight house training skills have been mastered! He is already whining and pawing at the back door to let us know he has to use the potty. Soldiers favorite toys are …...well.....EVERYTHING!!! His recovery has been uncomplicated however he displays some vision impairment and this will be a major factor when considering his forever home. He will need a home with a fence (physical), another dog, kids over 5 yrs old (if applicable), a family devoted to being patient and working with his impairment. This little boy has been through so much and came out on the other side as sweet as pie. He LOVES his people!!
