Belle
We do not think anyone failed her purposefully, but everything she has been thru since she was born just 11 short months ago, set her up for failure. She was born and raised in a shed kennel at the home of a breeder. She resided in the kennel with several other dogs. The last 3 weeks prior to her being purchased at 6 months old, she spent sharing the same kennel with her brother.
Belle is a Dutch/Malinois Shepherd. Anyone who knows shepherds, knows they are extremely i ntelligent, play hard and love even harder. They find their one human and that is their person. Her new owners had no other animals and no children. The man worked away all week, while the woman worked all week and was home in the evenings. Imagine... how quiet it was in the home. Imagine... what she was thinking. She went from the noise of the kennel to complete silence and being alone all day. She was beyond terrified. Belle is very fearful of men... was very unsure of anything. She had zero confidence and was completely broken.
This girl was extremely terrified and confused when she came into ODAAT. She has been with us since June. She is still quirky and will take a very special family. this is what we know. Bottom Line... She LOVES kids! Her entire demeanor changes the moment she sees a child. She is still fearful of men until she gets to know them. She is good with other dogs as long as they aren't overbearing. Cats we do not know. Belle needs an active family or a fenced in yard where she can exercise and stay stimulated with her favorite activity... playing ball! She will require further training and careful socialization. This will be a requirement with adoption. The sky is the limit with this girl for the perfect family. She will be protective of her people we have no doubt. This girl is truly a one of a kind.
